a series of fabulous misunderstandings in the land of an unpredictable communication

the other day when Johan Galtung arrived to the seminar I had invited him to speak to, it was the first time I was meeting him. He greeted me so warmly. Hugs and “finally” ….But before I even said hello, he handed me over a little piece of paper containing something, holding it in this…

a message from our friends and colleagues of SADAKA REUT (israeli-palestinian friendship)

Dear friends and partners, Once again we find ourselves in the midst of yet another violent escalation of the conflict. We are appalled and deeply saddened by the turning of these events. We mourn the death of over 700 women, men and children and thousands of wounded in Gaza to date. As all other citizens…

It also became the de facto peace agreement and formed the basis for the personal union between Sweden and Norway that was established…

Jeremy Gilley in Moss!

I am so happy today! We just got the confirmation of Jeremy  Gilley coming to our peace seminar this year! Here is a little more on Jeremy and his work. for those who would not know him yet! Jeremy Gilley is  a  social  entrepreneur,  filmmaker,  actor  and  businessman. Following  a  lucrative  acting  career,  Jeremy  began  making  his  own  films before  founding  the  non-profit  film  project,  Peace  One  Day  in  1999.  The  film presented  the  World  with  Jeremy’s  efforts  to  establish  a  day  of  global ceasefire  and  non-violence,  every  year. Subsequent  to  his  campaign,  United  Nations  member  states  unanimously adopted  a  General  Assembly  resolution  in  September  2001.  The  resolution saw  to  it  that  21st  September  was  from  then  on  established  as  the  UN International  Day  of  Peace. Peace  One  Day,  as  an  organization,  operates  across  music  and  film,  dance, sports  and  education  as  well  as  embracing  the  evolving  technologies  within the  Internet,  and  through  these  means  Peace  One  Day  has  been  proven  to work.  Millions  of  people  from  all  over  the  World  have  taken  part  in  Peace  Day and,  since  it  was  established,  areas  of  conflict  have  now  been  accessible  to organizations  looking  to  carry  out  important  work  for  the  community. Peace  One  Day  ambassador,  Jude  Law,  and  Jeremy  Gilley  lead  a  campaign that  has  resulted  in  4.5  million  Afghan  children  receiving  polio  vaccinations who  would  otherwise  have  been  inaccessible.  Peace  One  Day’s  main objective  is  to  create  global  unity  and  cooperation  to  make  Peace  Day  self- sustaining;  a  notion  that  has  not  been  attempted  nor  even  openly contemplated  before. Peace  Day  2011  saw  Jeremy  Gilley  launch  the  Global  Truce  campaign  –  an effort  to  assemble  the  largest  number  of  individuals,  from  across  the  World, in  the  name  of  peace  with  the  view  to  measure  the  reduction  in  World violence.  Building  a  series  of  networks  and  enabling  organizations  to  show off  and  be  inspired  by  each  other’s  Peace  Day  plans,  are  part  of  the  concept. Jeremy  is  also  developing  methods  to  measure  how  successful  his  campaign is  each  year  and  what  can  be  done  to  ensure  it  does  better  the  next. Peace  One  Day  and  Jeremy’s  role  within  it  is  all  about  raising  awareness  of Peace  Day.  This  includes  collaborating  with  the  relevant  people,  companies and  charities  and  stems  out  to  making  globally-viewed  documentaries,  as  well as  organizing  concerts  attended  by  some  of  the  biggest  names  in  music. Gilley  has  spoken  at  a  number  of  high  profile  events,  and  won  numerous awards  as  a  result  of  his  efforts.  He  has  also  written  a  children’s  book.
